How to Redecorate a Room Into a Tinkerbell Room
Your Tinkerbell room makeover should start with painting the walls green.
She may be tiny, but Disney’s pocket-size pixie Tinkerbell has become an iconic character for the brand. So it shouldn’t really come as a surprise if your daughter decides that she’s tired or her old, boring bedroom and wants to give it a Tinkerbell-inspired makeover. You don’t need to sweat over the idea of a complicated redecorating project, though. With a few simple changes, you can turn any room into a fairy wonderland that Tinkerbell herself would feel at home in.
Change the Wall Color
The first step to converting any bedroom to a Tinkerbell theme is to paint the walls with appropriate colors. Tinkerbell’s trademark color is usually green like her dress, so it’s an ideal shade for the walls. You can go bold and bright with a lime or grass green paint or keep things soft by painting the walls a mint color. When it comes to the molding and trim work, a basic white works well. But you can use blue and purple shades if you prefer a more colorful look. Even a buttery yellow shade would work well for the room’s trim work as a nod to Tinkerbell’s blond locks.
Add Wall Decor
No Tinkerbell room would be complete without wall art depicting the tiny fairy. Disney offers a wide variety of Tinkerbell posters, prints, clocks, mirrors and other items that are ideal for decorating bedroom walls. For an especially whimsical look, put up Tinkerbell-themed wall decals. You can use them to create an accent wall behind the bed or scatter them across all of the room’s walls for a bolder look. If you want to give the bedroom a more personalized look, however, consider painting your own Tinkerbell theme mural. Find an image of Tinkerbell that you like online and make a copy of it. Then use an overhead projector to project it on your wall – office supply stores usually have projectors for rent. Trace the scene on the wall with a pencil, and then go back and fill it in with paint. You can use stencils to incorporate your child’s name somewhere in the design.
Just as it’s easy to find licensed Disney decor items that feature Tinkerbell, you can choose from a range of bedding options that fit the theme as well. To keep the room from looking too busy, though, don’t go overboard with the character bedding. Choose a single element, such as a Tinkerbell comforter or pillow, and allow it to be the focal point of the bed by choosing solid green for the rest of the bedding. If you don’t want to use Tinkerbell theme bedding, go for a fairy garden-inspired look with a simple pink or purple floral print and vibrant green accents.
Because Tinkerbell is known for the twinkling trail of pixie dust that she leaves behind, you can give your bedroom a whimsical, authentic look by incorporating your own twinkling fairy lights. Simple white string lights with a twinkle feature are an ideal option, but you can add a little color by going with green or yellow lights. Try hanging several strings down a wall or wrapping them around the bed posts. You can even drape them across the room’s valances to create an easy but striking window treatment.
