TEXAS INSURANCE PRELICENSING REQUIREMENTS

A Texas Insurance License is regulated at the state level and, as such, state government establishes its own insurance licensing requirements and examination procedures. Below are general prelicensing requirements in the state of Texas, and those for each line of insurance:

General Requirements

  • An individual applying for a Texas insurance license must be at least 18 years of age
  • Applicants are not required to be sponsored to pursue their license
  • Applicants must submit fingerprints as part of the license application
  • Texas has no prelicensing education requirement unless a 90-day temporary license is desired. To obtain a 90-day temporary license, candidates must complete 40 hours of prelicensing education
  • Candidates must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing grade on the examination

Insurance Adjuster – All Lines License

  • Licensing Exam Exemption – Applicants for the All Lines Adjusters License who hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU ) or Associate in Claims (AIC ) designations are exempt from taking the licensing exam.
  • In addition to the designation exemption, applicants may qualify for the All Lines Adjuster License by successfully completing a state-approved course within 12 months prior to submitting an application. We offer Live Classroom and Online approved courses.

Insurance Adjuster – Property and Casualty License

  • Licensing Exam Exemption – Applicants for the Property and Casualty Adjusters License who hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU ) or Associate in Claims (AIC ) designations are exempt from taking the licensing exam.

  • Licensing Exam Exemption – Applicants for the Workers Compensation Adjusters License who hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU ) or Associate in Claims (AIC ) designations are exempt from taking the licensing exam.

Life, Accident and Health License

  • Candidates are not required to complete any pre-licensing education course; however, their chances of passing the Texas Life Health licensing exam are vastly improved by attending a Live Classroom course. Property and Casualty License – General Lines

  • Candidates are not required to complete any prelicensing education course; however, their chances of passing the Texas Property Casualty licensing exam are vastly improved by attending a Classroom course. Life License

Personal Lines License

  • A Personal Lines Agent may sell Automobile, Home, Flood and Umbrella Insurance

Surplus Lines License

  • A Surplus Lines Agent may place coverage with surplus lines or unauthorized/non admitted insurance companies within Texas
